Dear unlicensed thinker,
This one snapped together while trekking through a blustery February snowstorm in London, Ontario.
Low visibility.
Wind doing its worst.
Goose Island IPA in hand.
Three cops driving past.
It felt like the right moment to think about exits:
\/\ WHAT SNAPPED /\/
(1) Cornerability vs. Freedom (Defense vs. Offense)
Cornerability is defense:
* It describes how easily your life can be boxed in by System constraints.
* Cornerability fades as you add places to stand.
* Defense is the first problem to solve.
Freedom is offense:
* It sounds good, but it’s hard to practice while cornered.
* Freedom becomes actionable as cornerability decreases.
* Most people talk freedom without checking their exits.
Once you notice this, you start counting corners…
(2) Degrees of Cornerability
Cornerability comes in degrees.
Think accounts, credentials, access points — any place where “off” exists:
* 1D: one switch (action) can corner you.
* 2D: two switches — harder to pull at once.
* 3D+: cornering you now takes multiple independent actions at once.
Exit = moving 1D → 2D → 3D
Most lives stop at one dimension because it’s tidy.
It also makes the box very easy to close.
\/\ DIRECTION, AT LEAST FOR NOW /\/
Q: Given what just snapped into place, how am I proceeding differently?
Make yourself harder to corner before thinking about freedom. 1D → 2D → 3D.
Now let’s keep moving.
